MHNA HALLOWEEN SUCCESS!
This years MHNA Halloween Safety Light Distribution Project was a great success! Special thanks goes out to our donors: Ada County Highway District, National Crime Prevention Council, Boise Police Department, and Target. And thank you also to all of our participating Morris Hill Patrol Team members who handed out the free blinking lights, coloring books, activity sheets, crayons, compasses, safety whistles, and McGruff reflective stickers. A great time was had by all and we’ll definitely do it again next year!
GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARDS
Earlier this fall, the City of Boise recognized several of our neighbors who were nominated for this year’s Good Neighbor Award. Nominations were submitted from the entire City and I’m proud to announce that 30% of all of the award winners actually live within the Morris Hill boundaries! Great job, neighbors! Award winner names and nomination narratives are listed below for your convenience and be sure to check out the following Idaho Statesman link too!

Crone’s Cupboard:
“Jeanine and Jon Lesniak, owners of Crone’s Cupboard have given their time and gifts to various neighborhood events over the past several years. They participated in National Night Out events, a Neighborhood Thank You Reception, and hosted a refreshment station for our annual Crime Prevention Walk-A-Thon and cleanup event. The owners serve on neighborhood committees and have offered their business as a meeting location. The support that Crone’s Cupboard provides to our neighborhood is an inspiration; they lead by example and encourage other local businesses to do the same. They have become a vital part of, not only our neighborhood community, but the larger City community as well.”
Mildred Hickman:
“Mildred constantly gives to her neighborhood and community. Many individuals see her as she delivers the Morris Hill Neighborhood Association’s “welcome wagon” gift bags to new residents, or at a community event such as Boise Public Library’s “Big Read”, or distributing education materials door-to-door to her neighbors. However, most of the neighbors and commuters in the area recognize Mildred from the morning walk she takes every day. She walks through the neighborhood proudly wearing her Morris Hill Neighborhood Patrol vest, holding a garbage bag as she collects trash on the roadway with one hand and giving a big wave to every person she comes across with her other hand. She always has a kind word to say and a helping hand for every person she comes upon. Mildred is truly a Good Neighbor!”
Lynn Lockhart:
“Lynn Lockhart has truly been an asset to the Morris Hill Neighborhood Association and is the key component to the neighborhood’s many successes. Lynn’s calm, poised, caring, giving and dedicated personality not only facilitates the wonderful accomplishments that the Morris Hill N.A. has made throughout the years, but has also created a standard of excellence for others to mimic as a leader, an employee, a colleague, a neighbor and a friend. Her personal integrity and professionalism are apparent when one works with her and reviews her list of accomplishments. And it is for the above stated reasons that we believe whole-heartedly that her contributions to the City of Boise go above and beyond anyone’s expectations.”
Greg and Deborah Mundy:
“I was away from home and my neighbor could hear my backyard chickens squawking loudly. They called my home and left me a message saying they would walk next door and make sure everyone was okay. I came home soon after and heard the message and was thankful that someone cared enough to not only call, but to come in my back yard and check that no one was disturbing my flock. Greg and Deborah are great neighbors and I am so thankful for them!”
Patricia Pereira:
“Patricia is part of the Morris Hill Patrol Team. She donates many hours of her time to make our neighborhood a better place to live and play. She walks the neighborhood being friendly, picking up trash, and looking out for others. She is a fabulous addition to our neighborhood and a pleasure to know!”
Amanda Swails:
“For a number of years, Amanda, with the help of her husband, has donated their yard and time to hold an annual garage sale to benefit the Morris Hill Neighborhood Association. They accept items weeks in advance, and make arrangements for pick up of large items and from the elderly. After the event, they either store items in their garage for the following year or take them to the Idaho Youth Ranch – a MHNA business. Thanks to Amanda and her husband for being great neighbors!”
Jim Talbot:
“Jim Talbot is one of those rare individuals that makes a positive difference within the City of Boise each and every day. He has been an active member of the Morris Hill Neighborhood Association since 2004, as well as Neighborhood Watch Block Chairman, and an active member of the Morris Hill N.A. Patrol Team. These volunteer posts create a valuable impact on Jim’s neighbors and the City of Boise by preventing crime and making the area a wonderful place to live, work and recreate. He was a presenter at the Morris Hill N.A. Biennial Neighborhood Thank You Reception and has been the honorary photographer at several events. He is a valuable friend, neighbor, volunteer and citizen within our community.”
Andrea Tuning:
“Andrea is a friendly familiar face to all our neighbors, not only because she walks her dogs everyday in our neighborhood, but she is actively involved in many of our neighborhood activities. She is a member of the Morris Hill Patrol and has volunteered over 100 hours this year to help prevent crime in our neighborhood. She hosts a National Night Out block party each year. Andrea delivers Morris Hill N.A. meeting and event flyers door-to-door, and attends the meetings and events as well. Thank you Andrea for all that you do for our neighborhood!”
Have a safe and happy holidays, neighbors!
