Emerald House

Emerald House, a response to the former tent city here in Boise known as Cooper Court, is now housing seven adults. Mayor Bieter and the City have partnered with numerous organizations in Idaho to build a “Housing First” solution to help with chronic homelessness. Emerald House located near the corner of Emerald and Orchard, was donated by a neighbor, after seeing a growing concern over the former Cooper Court residents. The tenants at Emerald House have all had to sign a rental agreement, where they had to agree to treat themselves and others with respect, as well as keep up the house and make any needed repairs. Interfaith Sanctuary’s new development and program director, Jodi Peterson told the Boise Weekly, “I’ve been very quiet about this. We wanted to do this the right way and not scare anybody away.” “The model, Peterson said, came from similar agreements used in the Eugene, Oregon-based Opportunity Village, a tiny-home community for the homeless.
